of the Power Industry

- 4/14/04: Dr. Safiuddin present on "Pointing
the Finger for the Great Blackout of 2003"
- Dr. Safiuddin presented a brief history of
the power grid
to establish how the system developed. Then he discussed recent
business
(non-technical) changes in the power industry and its relation to the
recent
power failure. The industry is maximizing its profit and
oversight
responsibility is broken up under: local utilities, state boards, and
the
FERC. We can expect more blackouts certainly. However, it
appears
our power grid is degrading into one equivalent to a third-world
country.
